Just a kid at heart

OK, as I've mentioned before and probably will several other times (since it is a pretty defining number) I'm going to be 30 in Nov. 30, it seemed so far away when I was 18 and now it's looming over me. As of right now I currently go to college part time, I work full time 5 nights a week, and I pay my own way for all my bills. I pay my Mom a small amount of rent money and the rest I make up in doing things around the house, ie: mow the yard, shovel the drive, change a lightblub, you get the idea. Finally I have to pay to keep my car in good running condition for my job and of course fill it with gas, which as we all know, ain't cheap these days. So yes, I like to think I come across as a pretty responsible adult who can take care of herself. However, as much as I am an adult, I am very much a big kid most of the time. I realized this today when I was relaxing and jamming to Rock Band 2. I had finished a song and had been dancing to it while playing and when the song stopped and the screen loaded and changed, I grabbed my can of soda to take a drink and that's when I noticed it. My wall scrolls, 3 Sailor Moons, a Final Fantasy VIII, and a Silent Hill 2 hang on my walls, with a Hello Kitty calendar. I have a huge doll and toy collection, some Sailor Moon, most video game related stuff, plus all my old and new game systems (I have too many to list here). A shelf overflowing with beanie babies, an impressive collection of Hello Kitty dolls, and of course my DVD collection, filled with a few grown up movies, such as The Wolfman for example. But for ever grown up movie, there seems to be 3 to 4 kid movies, lots of Disney animated features among them. And of course, my anime collection which is slowly, but steadily growing. Also, if you were to look at some of my t-shirts, I still dress like I'm in High School. But while some may find this disturbing, I'm actually quite happy with all of it. It's what I do, it's what I enjoy, and as long as I feel young at heart, age will never have real meaning for me. It'll just be another number, at least until I hit 40, Lol. Until tomorrow.

My Cell Phone & Me: A Love Story

I got my 1st cell phone when I was 19 for my birthday. Talk about a primitive model by today's standards, but I loved it. Of course this was back in 1999 and for the time, it was a pretty awesome phone. It wasn't until a year later when a friend slowly brought me into the world of text messaging, which I now am a pro at and have unlimited messaging. Also I think I am the only one of my friends to still have the same number 10 years later. Of course my phone was pretty basic back then. As the years have passed, I've upgraded several times of course, each phone becoming "smarter" than the last. Well to bring you all up to speed, my current phone I got in Mar of 2009 & love it SO much! Compared to what my phones in the past did, this one was the most advanced phone I'd ever had. It's also the 1st one I ever picked out on my own. Basically any phone before this my parents or my ex-husband picked & while they did what they were intended for, they were very limited. Now what sold me on this phone after talking with the sales girl was simply the fact that it's blue, my fave color. But since then, a love affair has grown between it and me as I can now take pictures (I have a ton of my cats, ha!) access myxertones (a site for free ring tones, videos and pictures), tweet to twitter, which I'm addicted to, and just recently, mocospace, an phone chat site. My next upgrade is in Dec in which I hope to have the funds for an iPhone, which means I'll basically have a handheld computer that makes phone calls, Lol. I'll miss this one, but am excited for what I'll be able to do with my newer phone. Until Tomorrow.

Work Sucks on a nightly bases

My job really pisses me off sometimes, OK, most of the time (and really who has the perfect job that doesn't annoy them?). Before I criticize though, I have to admit, it does have a few perks and freedoms that a lot of jobs don't. 1st, no set hours. As long as you finish throwing papers by 7 am, they don't care when you show. 2nd, no Boss breathing down your neck. Yea, there are Managers you have to answer to or call when you have a question, but really as long as your customers are happy, they pretty much leave you to yourself. 3rd, no dress code. I've seen people work in their pj's (I once delivered my papers wearing my slippers, ha! I'm such a rebel!). 4th, how difficult can a job be when all you do is drive all night, in your own car, jamming to music, & can bring anyone along with you that's willing to go and hang out? Now all that said, here's where I get annoyed. The papers seem to keep being printed later & later, which means we get them later & later, yet we're still supposed to be done by 7 am. How in the hell do you do a 4 hour route, plus bagging time, in less than 3 some nights? 2nd, the equipment sucks! The inserter breaks down if it goes to fast and when the inserts don't go in, they get counted as papers,& thus, we carriers end up short & have to either drive back to the office or buy papers at a gas station. Yes we get reimbursed if we present a receipt, but still, the point is we shouldn't have to worry about that. 3rd, the newspaper seems to be a dying breed, going the way of the video & cassette tape. Which is why I went back to college, I don't see there being need to deliver papers in about 5 years. 4th the company that owns us, owns a whole ton of small local papers, but has decided to run them off of one press. Yea, that thing is already barely holding together as it is, how long is it going to last running 35 different newspapers a day, 5 days a week? Honestly, I could go on forever, but I'm tired as all get out and need to get some sleep. Until tomorrow.

My 1st Blog

OK, I'm popping the cherry on my blog virginity. My name is Katie & sometimes I feel I view the world in a strange way (don't we all?). Currently I am typing this while cooking dinner. It's baking in the oven right at the moment. I am making a Weight Watchers recipe for a veggie & turkey pepperoni casserole. Yes, I am on a weight loss program and I'm not ashamed to admit it. I needed the help & so far it has worked as I have lost 150 lbs in 2 & 1/2 years.  I currently reside with my Mother & a room mate named Mike. I can not afford to live on my own right at the moment. I work at night delivering my local newspaper & then by day I'm a part time college student. I will be 30 in 25 days. I named my blog this, because while Mike says I'm normal (at least compared to him, he's a self declared "freak of nature) others have told me due to my many interests, I'm a geek. Whatever I am, I have found I am quite happy with who I have become in the last couple of years. There is a lot too me & I won't bore you by laying it all out in this blog. This is mainly an intro to what will hopefully become a daily thing. Since I sleep during the day & work & go to school, I have little contact with the outside world, so I have become a social media junkie. I am on facebook, twitter, just joined this & mocospace today & will be adding screw attack hopefully this weekend. Thx for reading, now if you'll excuse me, my casserole is done. Until tomorrow
